Delta-Slider Radio? More Thoughts

Update - Really just one new thought.  What about a podcast once in a while?  A show that you can play on the computer, download from iTunes, play on your mp3 player...???

Hey loyal readers.  I need your input!  I’ve been thinking of starting up an Internet radio station on Live365.com that would, of course be focused on the type of music I usually feature here on the blog.

Since it is the type of set-up that pays the royalties and all that jazz I can play anything and everything you and I want to hear.  American Primitive, blues and even flamenco.  I know, weird mix.

But I have a lot of questions.  And that’s where you come in.  Please, please, please give me some feedback on this.  I don’t want to put a ton of work into this thing and then have it broadcasting to a vacuum.  I need to know if you would go to the site, sign up (free) and listen to the station.

Here's some things I would like to hear about:

Have you ever heard of Live365?  Is there a better site?

Do you already listen to Internet radio?

If so, is it working for you or are you looking for something better?  What would ‘better’ be to you?

Would you listen for free?

There is also a VIP membership (for a fee, of course).  Will you pay to listen to Internet radio?

If you are a musician with unreleased music, would you be interested in having your music played on this station?

I’m looking for answers to these questions and any general feedback about this idea that you might have.

Leave me a comment with your thoughts.

Want to discuss it with me?  Send me an email delta_slider AT yahoo.com

Or…just vote on the survey on the sidebar of the blog.  Note, if you are reading this in and email of a feed, bless you, you can click on over to the site to vote quickly and anonymously.

Looking forward to the responses and thanks!

    *I listen to WFMU a lot and I like the variety but I guess that a radio dedicated to that style will be very appealing to me

    Would you listen for free?
    *yes

    *not so sure about that. Content is mainly free everywhere

    * Not heard of it before.

    * Nope.

    * Yes.

    * Probably not...I would rather put the money towards a record TBH.

    If you are a musician with unreleased music, would you be interested in having your music played on this station?

    * Yes!

    Sounds like a good idea to me...I don't listen to internet radio because I don't know of any stations I would like. I'd definately listen to a Delta Slider channel.

  3. Good stuff so far folks. Thank you.
    Keep it honest. You won't hurt my feelings.
    Post anonymously if you prefer.

    To answer Yair's question, I guess I'm asking if you already know of or listen to a site that has a large variety of small independent broadcasters that is starter friendly. The slick thing with Live365 is that they take care of the royalties, less hassle for me. It's the only one I know of that does that.

  5. Scott, This is what I needed when I was fifteen, an audio clearinghouse of what contemporary guitar players of all stripes advanced and up were up to. You could do that in your playlist and it's an exciting idea. Many of us would LOVE to have the opportunity to share with a wider audience, a great idea. As listeners, we'd rely on you to do any requisite weeding out. But there has probably never been so MANY decent fingerstylists etc (and not so decent) as there are now. But hopefully enough good ones to keep things interesting.
    I've listened to Pandora (internet radio) but would prefer what you envision, a more comprehensive listing of guitarists such as the ones you talk about here. Don't know about fees, that depends... And would the broadcasts be downloadable...and whatever that entails...

  6. Thanks for the input Charlie,
    As for the fees, the way it works is the station is allowed X amount of free listeners at any moment. If you have the VIP membership you can always listen to a station regardless of the fact that it is currently full of free listeners.
    I don't really expect people to buy memberships but still want to ask.
    As far as I know broadcasts are not downloadable.

  7. Have you ever heard of Live365?
    Not that I recall.

    Is there a better site?
    Ya got me?!?

    Do you already listen to Internet radio?
    Not as a rule, I don't have as much online time
    as I used to have due to a career move.

    If so, is it working for you or are you looking for something better? What would ‘better’ be to you?
    For this purpose, I mostly agree with Charlie.
    It is a great way to get the unknowns known.

    Would you listen for free?
    Sure, if I have the time.

    There is also a VIP membership (for a fee, of course). Will you pay to listen to Internet radio?
    Nah, not at this time anyway, I've got a lot of
    records(yes I'm in the old school) and cds.
    And my guitars too.

    If you are a musician with unreleased music, would you be interested in having your music played on this station?
    Certainly!
