Vinyl Reissue of John Fahey - Requia

This year, Vanguard Records have announced five albums they are reissuing for the day. Each were remastered from the original master tapes, and will be pressed in a limited edition of 1000 copies each. They will be available ONLY at participating stores on this day, and while it’s safe to say that they may be available elsewhere, if you can scoop a copy or two up, do it early:
Skip James-Today!
John Hammond-So Many Roads
Mississippi John Hurt-The Immortal
John Fahey-Requia (and Other Compositions for Guitar Solo)
Country Joe & the Fish-Electric Music for the Mind and Body

Visit the official Record Store Day site for info.

On the subject of records...
Here's an interesting article on a band that mixed their music to vinyl and back to digital to try to emulate the vinyl sound.  Also a few very interesting words on how the quality of the music changes as the needle moves toward the center of the record.  Very interesting, but short post, though there are numerous links to other articles.

Acoustic Guitar Legends: John Fahey & More!

I just got my December issue of Acoustic Guitar in the mail, it should be hitting the stands any minute now and this month looks to be a hat trick for the Delta-Slider crowd.
Up first is a John Fahey lesson.  You can read it online and watch the video lessons here:
Acoustic Guitar: Acoustic Guitar Legends: John Fahey Lesson

That covers the American Primitive.

Next up is Mississippi John Hurt, that covers the blues!  Who doesn't want to learn to play like John Hurt? Acoustic Guitar: Acoustic Guitar Legends: Mississippi John Hurt Lesson

And rounding out the triple threat is a Paco de Lucía lesson!  Holy flippin' Phrygian scale, Batman!  I love when flamenco gets a little love from a big boy guitar magazine.  Here in the States that is uncommon. Be sure to check out the video lesson for this one just to see the old-school flamenco guitar.  Acoustic Guitar: Acoustic Guitar Legends: Paco de Lucía Lesson    How about that head stock with the friction tuning pegs?  Sweet!

That covers my favorites but AG isn't done, there's also lessons in the style of Norman Blake, Ani DiFranco and Paul Simon.

And look! A review of "Beyond Berkeley Guitar!" Acoustic Guitar: Various Artists, Beyond Berkeley Guitar

It's nice to see an issue of AG with so much Fahey and Fahey-related material in it.

And since the holidays are fast approaching there's a nice arrangement of "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" by Happy Traum with a free TAB download.  Acoustic Guitar: It Came Upon a Midnight Clear

By the way, I'm not getting anything to hawk AG magazine.  I just thought this was an exceptional issue that you might be interested in.

Mississippi John Hurt - Guitar Tabs

Could there be anything better than sitting on a rocker picking some Hurt tunes?
This is a little pdf book someone put together with the basics of Hurt's songs, most have the lyrics as well.
I make no claim to accuracy and these are probably no different than all the other tabs out there, except they are all in one place!
I printed it out and bound it loose leaf so I can learn them all someday.
